The first surprise
One of the best preserved monuments of the Roman times is without a question the building complex known as the Trajan’s Market. The first surprise to the visitor must be, that it is not, in fact, a market place. During the reconstruction and renovation work it was revealed to the researchers that the huge building complex had been most apparently built as an administration and office building.
Some numbers
The Trajan’s Market museum has 25 halls open for public. The exhibition space thus covers over 2000 square metres. The objects found in the area of the markets make an exhibition of 40.000 pieces of museum objects. There are 27 marble relics. The reconstruction work took 2 years and cost 6.400.000 euros. So far there have been 100.000 visitors.

Visitors are recommended to have a reservation, just like to the Domus Aurea and Augustus houses. The two mentioned houses are only accessible with a reservation.

Renzo Piano
It was not easy to persuade Piano to take the little wine cellar project. The Genovese master has, indeed, been working with greater projects: the Centre Pompidou of Paris, the entire street design with all the buildings of Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, the renewal of the old Genoa Port, and dozens of museums and airports around the world. The architect did, however, take a helicopter trip to Toscana in order to see the area where the wine cellar was to be built. He himself calls the piece Wine factory. He designed the factory maybe surprisingly with the colour red. The result is aesthetically impressive, and the already tasty wine cannot get anything but even tastier, when it is sampled inside this very building.
Massimiliano Fuksas
In 2004 Fuksas designed a new building complex for Naridini. In his typical style the structure is lifted up to kind of float on top of pillars, and the best grappa of Italy is produced there. Grappa is liqueur produced from the wine pomace in the region of Italy. The name of the unique grappa distillery is Bubbles: place, transaction and research.

Mario Botta
Mario Botta has also left his own wine temple particularly in Toscana. Botta’s piece was executed between 2001 and 2003. It is a cylinder-shaped structure made out of stone, and it sort of leans to the hill behind it. Being faithful to his style Botta has used astonishingly outstanding and touching light solutions.

Tuscia Opera Festival
Viterbo, Bolsena, Orvieto, Civita di Bagnoregio and Montefiascone; in the land of the Etruscans the Tuscia Opera Festivals are held from 5th July to 6th September. The event contains a lot more than just opera; it offers also dance and classical music in general. The artistic director of the event is bandmaster Stefano Vignato, and he will not let the viewers down this year either. There is a lot of new to experience, for instance the novelty of Lina Wertmuller: Peccatti d’allergia offering the 20th century film music and anecdotes.

Van Gogh in Brescia
A great opportunity to get to know one of the most fascinating cities of Northern Italy: Brescia, and Van Gogh simultaneously. The Saint Julia’s Benedict monastery complex has been renewed into Brescia museum, and it presents Van Gogh’s drawings and paintings from the Kröller-Müller museum. The exhibition will be opened on 18th October and it will last all the way to 25th January. The exposition contains for instance the painting Suffering old man from 1882 and self-portrait from 1887. The butterfly park of Villa Garzoni has been opened
The real park of dreams, Villa Garzoni, is located in Collodi, which is near the Pinokkio park. The baroque park of the villa from the 1700 century is a real Eden which attracts its visitors with the statues, waterfalls and now also with butterflies. Recently opened butterfly house is an unique sightseeing in Italy. Theme days for women travel
During 11.-13.6. the city of Merano helds the first international seminar of women’s museums. Merano, the only city in Italy, where you can find a women’s museum, has the honor to host the first ever seminar for this happening.
